The 442nd Regimental Combat Team was an all-Japanese American unit in the U.S. Army during World War II, renowned for being the most decorated unit of its size and duration in American military history. Composed of Nisei (second-generation Japanese Americans), they fought with the motto "go for broke" in Italy, France, and Germany.  Their unit earned numerous decorations, including 21 Medals of Honor, 52 Distinguished Service Crosses, 560 Silver Stars, and over 4,000 Purple Hearts.

Each artwork is an attempt to “encapsulate” each members deeds that they performed to earn their respective awards.  Accompanied with each image is an explanation of their actions, which comes from U.S. Military records.
